๐งน๐ชฃCleaning Up
๐งด๐ฉฒ๐ฟ Body Clean Up
๐งผ Be Careful With Soap
Not all soap is the same โ and not all of it is safe for sensitive parts of your body.
Most body washes, bars, and even some hand soaps are fragranced, which can irritate your skin and genitals, especially with frequent use.
๐ซ Fragranced or antibacterial soaps often contain:
๐Alcohols or detergents that strip away natural moisture
๐Scents and dyes that can trigger allergic reactions
๐Ingredients that disrupt your skin's pH and protective barrier
๐ก This can lead to:
๐Itching, redness, flaking, or peeling
๐Small tears in the skin (which can increase STI risk)
๐General discomfort during or after work
โ What to use instead:
๐Fragrance-free bar soaps like Dove Sensitive, QV, or Cetaphil
๐Unscented body washes designed for sensitive skin
๐Just warm water between clients, unless there's visible sweat or fluids
๐ฆ Pro tip: Genitals and anus donโt need to smell like flowers โ they need to be clean, not chemically scented. Let your body do its job.

๐ Safer Use of Viagra and Similar Medications
Viagra (sildenafil) and related drugs (e.g. Cialis/tadalafil, Levitra/vardenafil) are commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). They can be helpful for some sex workers to manage performance
โ ๏ธTheyโre not for everyone and should be used with careโ ๏ธ
โ Safe Use Tips
๐ Timing: Take 30โ60 minutes before sex. Avoid more than one dose in 24 hours.
๐ฆ Stay hydrated: Can cause dehydration and headaches.
๐ Watch food and alcohol: Heavy meals or alcohol can delay or reduce the effect.
โค๏ธ Only use with trusted partners: Over-reliance can affect confidence and performance naturally.
๐ฌ Talk to a doctor if:
๐You have heart, liver, or kidney conditions
๐You take medications for blood pressure, HIV, or recreational drugs like poppers (โ ๏ธ dangerous mix!)
โ Never mix with poppers (amyl nitrate): Can cause life-threatening drop in blood pressure.
๐ง Donโt use recreationally if not neededโit can increase anxiety or lead to psychological dependence
โ ๏ธ Risks & Side Effects
๐ ๐ด Headache, flushing, nasal congestion
๐๐งโโ๏ธ Dizziness, especially if standing suddenly
๐ ๐ Vision changes (e.g. blue tint)
๐ ๐ Chest pain or rapid heartbeat (seek help!)
๐ ๐ Risk of priapism (erection lasting over 4 hours โ medical emergency!)
๐ซ Avoid if:
๐ You take nitrates (for chest pain)
๐ You have severe heart disease
๐ You use poppers or certain antidepressants
๐ You have low blood pressure or are on dialysis
๐ Where to Get Viagra (and Similar Meds) in New Zealand
Safely. Legally. For your health and safety.
โ Only Use Prescription ED Meds From Trusted Sources
You need a prescription in NZ to legally get Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), or Levitra (vardenafil). Hereโs how:
๐จโโ๏ธ Talk to a doctor/GP or clinic
You can do this online or in person:
๐ Zoom Pharmacy โ Online consult & delivery
๐ The Menโs Clinic โ ED-focused support
๐ฅ Pick up meds from trusted pharmacies:

๐ช Life Pharmacy
๐ Pharmacy Direct
๐ Chemist Warehouse
โ ๏ธ Never Buy or Accept ED Pills From:
๐ซ Clients
๐ซ Dealers or street contacts
๐ซ Random online sellers or dodgy sites
๐ซ Friends or other sex workers
Why not?
Meds shared by clients or dealers could be:
โ ๏ธFake or dangerous
โ ๏ธMixed with other substances
โ ๏ธThe wrong dose for your body
โ ๏ธHarmful with alcohol, poppers, or other meds
โ ๏ธA risk to your heart and sexual health
โ ๏ธA legal risk under NZ law
๐ซ NEVER:
โ ๏ธTake Viagra or any ED pill given to you by a client
โ ๏ธ Give or sell your prescribed meds to a client
โ ๏ธLet a client pressure you into taking meds for their benefit
๐ Your body = your choice. Always.

Store silicone toys separately from other materials (like jelly or rubber toys) to avoid chemical reactions.๐ Check for Damage
Regularly inspect your toys for cracks or tears. Damaged silicone may harbor bacteria.
โ Don'ts
๐ ๐ซ Don't Use Harsh Chemicals
Avoid bleach, alcohol, or vinegar, as they can degrade the material and lead to irritation when used on the skin.
Note: Products like Dettol are not recommended for cleaning sex toys.
๐ ๐ง Don't Submerge Electrical Toys
For toys that include a motor or batteries, avoid immersing them fully in water. Clean them carefully with a damp cloth instead.
๐ โ Don't Use Oil-Based Lubricants
Silicone toys can react poorly with oil-based lubes, leading to degradation or damage to the toy.
๐ ๐ซ Don't Use Shared Towels or Cloths
Never use the same towel for personal hygiene and toy cleaning to avoid cross-contamination.
๐ โ Don't Leave Wet Toys in Storage
Ensure your toy is completely dry before storing it to avoid mold or mildew growth.
๐ ๐งฝ Don't Use Harsh Scrubbing Tools
Avoid scrubbing with abrasive sponges or brushes, which can damage the surface and make it more difficult to clean.
๐ Quick Summary:
๐ฆ Always clean toys after every use with warm water, mild soap, or a toy cleaner.
โ Never use oil-based lubricants or bleach.
๐ฆ Store toys in a dry, separate place, and inspect for any damage.

๐ฝ๏ธ Eating Disorders
What To Know
Male sex workers can face unique pressures around body image, muscle size, and weight โ which can lead to harmful eating behaviors.
Eating disorders are real, serious, and affect men too.
You're not weak. You're not alone. ๐ช
โ ๏ธ Common Signs of Eating Disorders
๐ Skipping meals or extreme dieting
๐ Obsessive weighing, calorie counting, or mirror checking
๐ Using laxatives, vomiting, or over-exercising to โcontrolโ weight
๐ Feeling guilty after eating
๐ Rapid weight changes โ up or down
๐ Always feeling like your body isn't โgood enoughโ
๐จ Types of Eating Disorders That Affect Men
๐ง Anorexia Nervosa โ Starving or excessive control of food to stay thin
๐ฅ Bulimia Nervosa โ Eating large amounts of food, then purging (vomiting, laxatives, etc.)
๐ Binge Eating Disorder โ Repeatedly eating large amounts in secret, often with shame
๐๏ธโโ๏ธ Muscle Dysmorphia ("Bigorexia") โ Obsessing over getting bigger/more muscular, often with dangerous supplements or steroid use
๐ฌ These can mix with pressures from clients or online profiles where "appearance sells."
๐ง Why This Happens in Sex Work
๐ Clients may comment on your body or compare you to porn
๐ Social media or hookup apps pressure you to look โperfectโ
๐ Work can make you feel like your body = your value
๐ Drugs or enhancers (like Viagra or meth) can mess with eating habits

๐ช Steroids: Know the Risks, Stay in Control
Some male sex workers use steroids to bulk up, get leaner, or meet client expectations โ but steroids come with real risks. If you're using them (or thinking about it), hereโs what you need to know to stay safer.
โ What Are the Dangers?
Steroids can mess with your body and mind, especially when used often or without a doctor:
๐ง Mood swings, aggression (โroid rageโ), anxiety, or depression
๐ Heart problems and high blood pressure
๐งช Liver or kidney damage
๐ Erectile dysfunction or reduced sex drive
๐ฅ Shrinking testicles, acne, hair loss
๐ Can be addictive โ hard to stop once you start
โ Safer Use Tips (If You Choose to Use)
๐ Never share needles โ use sterile ones from Needle Exchange NZ
๐ฉบ Get regular blood tests to check liver, heart, and hormone health
๐ Use for short cycles only โ long-term use increases risk
๐จโโ๏ธ Talk to a doctor or nurse about what you're taking โ they wonโt judge you
๐ง Thinking About Stopping?
Youโre not alone. Coming off steroids can be tough, but support helps.

Hernias & Anal Fissures โ What You Need to Know
Your body works hard in sex work โ and sometimes, strain, pressure, or rough activity can lead to painful conditions like hernias or anal fissures.
๐ง Knowing the signs early can protect your health, your income, and your comfort.
๐ฅ What's a Hernia?
A hernia happens when part of your insides (like intestine) pushes through a weak spot in your muscle or tissue โ often in your groin or lower abdomen.
๐ฉป Common causes:
๐ Heavy lifting ๐ช (especially without proper support)
๐ Straining during bowel movements or sex ๐
๐ Chronic coughing or weight gain
๐ง Warning signs:
๐ A bulge or lump in your groin or lower belly
๐ Pain or pressure when lifting, coughing, or bending
๐ A feeling of "something popping out" or heaviness
๐ Swelling that gets worse by the end of the day
๐จ Seek help fast if:
๐ You feel nausea, vomiting, fever
๐ The bulge becomes hard, painful, or discolored
๐ You canโt push it back in
These could mean a strangulated hernia, which is a medical emergency.
๐ฉน Hernia Prevention & Care
๐ง Tips to protect yourself:
๐ ๐ฆต Use your legs, not your back, to lift
๐ ๐ฝ Avoid constipation โ eat fibre, stay hydrated
๐ ๐งโโ๏ธ Try not to strain too hard during sex or bowel movements
๐ ๐ฌ If you feel pressure or soreness, rest and monitor
๐ฉบ A hernia wonโt heal on its own โ if you suspect one, see a doctor before it worsens.
Surgery is often quick, safe, and free or low-cost in many health systems (including NZ).

โ Donโt Mix Pills, Poppers & Viagra
Mixing substances can be deadly โ especially sexual enhancers and party drugs.
โ ๏ธ Note: In March 2020 all amyl and alkyl nitrate products were reclassified as a prescription only medication in New Zealand.
๐ฅ Taking Viagra? 5 Things To Avoid If You Are Taking Sildenafil
๐ฅ Poppers use health and dangers. Trigger warning "I am not a whore".
โ๐ฅ Viagra + Poppers = risk of heart failure or sudden drop in blood pressure
โ๐ท Alcohol + Pills (like benzos or opioids) = dangerous sedation or overdose
โ๐งช Even mixing ecstasy with antidepressants (SSRIs) can lead to serotonin syndrome
๐ If you're taking any sex-enhancing meds, skip the other stuff โ or wait until itโs out of your system.
๐ง Know What Youโre Taking
Never trust a random pill, powder, or tab just because a client says โitโs safe.โ
โ Tips:
๐งช Test your gear โ use reagent test kits when possible
๐ Know YourStuff NZ
๐ Avoid mixing unknowns โ even โparty drugsโ like MDMA can be cut with meth, fentanyl, or random stimulants
๐ Never inject something if you donโt know whatโs in it
๐Shared or dirty needles = high HIV, Hepatitis B/C, abscess risks
๐Use Needle Exchange NZ for free sterile supplies and advice x1 needle 5 cents
๐ฟ Stay Clean, Stay Safe

๐ Pack a small "safety kit" with:
๐Condoms (internal & external)
๐Water based lube
๐Latex gloves
๐Alcohol wipes
๐Emergency contact card
๐Naloxone
๐งโโ๏ธ Donโt rely on a client to take care of things โ impaired people canโt always protect themselves.
๐งญ Plan Ahead If You Use Regularly
If drug or alcohol use is part of your routine, youโre not alone โ but make it safer:
๐ Carry naloxone if you or friends use opioids (heroin, oxy, fentanyl)
๐งโโ๏ธ Talk to a harm reduction worker, GP, or outreach nurse โ you wonโt get in trouble

๐ฌ Test for Fentanyl
Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be deadly in small amounts. It's sometimes mixed into other drugs without your knowledge.
๐งช Use fentanyl test strips to check your substances. They can detect fentanyl and many of its analogues, including carfentanil.
๐ Purchase test strips from the NZ Needle Exchange Programme: Fentanyl Test Strips ($0.50c)
โ ๏ธ Note: A negative result doesn't guarantee your drugs are free from all fentanyl analogues or other dangerous synthetic opioids.

๐ค Common Challenges We Face
๐ Discrimination โ From GPs, therapists, clients, even friends and family
๐ Being Misunderstood โ Some professionals donโt get sex work, and may judge you
๐ Isolation โ It can be hard to talk about your work or struggles
๐ Trauma โ Especially if you've survived childhood abuse, violence, or self-harm
๐ฌ What to Expect From Good Mental Health Support
โ
You feel listened to โ not judged
โ
You can speak honestly about sex work
โ
They take your concerns seriously
โ
They help you with real tools and referrals

๐งโโ๏ธ How to Find Sex WorkโFriendly Support
๐ Ask if theyโve worked with sex workers before
๐งพ Check websites for โnon-judgmentalโ or โharm reductionโ language
๐ง Message ahead โ ask if itโs okay to talk about sex work openly
๐ Look for trauma-informed or LGBTQIA+ experience (even if you donโt use those labels)
๐ฉ IA company or mental health service without a clear, easy-to-use complaints process can be dangerous, as it may silence harm, protect unsafe staff, and leave vulnerable people unsupported. This is especially true for sex workers with clients like lawyers, doctors, TV personalities, or religious figures, where accountability is crucial for safety and justice. ๐ฉ
๐Sexual Violence or Surviving Childhood Abuse
Some male sex workers have experienced childhood abuse, including sexual abuse โ itโs not your fault.

๐ New Citizenโs Arrest Rules in NZ โ What You Need to Know
๐ฎ Under the law (Crimes Act 1961, Section 35), any person can make a citizenโs arrest if:
A serious crime (punishable by prison) is happening or just happened
You believe on reasonable grounds that person committed it
๐ BUT: This can go wrong if used in the wrong situation.
๐ How This Affects Male Sex Workers
๐จClients or strangers might misuse this law to detain or intimidate you
๐จYou might be wrongly accused of a crime just for being a sex worker
If someone tries to detain you:
๐ Stay calm
๐ Record the situation if safe
๐ Call 111 and say you are being unlawfully detained
๐ Do not resist physically unless you're in danger โ that can be twisted in court
๐ค If you're wrongly detained or filmed, get legal help immediately:
๐ Call 111, Community Law or NZPC
โ Can YOU citizenโs arrest a client?
Yes โ but only in very specific cases:
๐ If a client seriously assaults you,
๐steals from you
๐ commits another imprisonable offence (like sexual violation)
You must:
โ
Tell them clearly theyโre under citizenโs arrest
โ
Call 111 immediately
โ
Only use reasonable force to stop them escaping โ not to punish
๐จBe aware๐จ
โ ๏ธFalse arrest = you could be charged
โ ๏ธBest to only use this if you're in real danger AND police are on the way
๐ฅ Always try to get video evidence and call police fast
Got more questions or need help understanding your rights?
